Takeaways from FETC: A ‘Game Changer’ for Education
With the FETC 2014 Conference at a close, we’d like to express how truly pleased we are to have participated in the event. When it comes to the fields of education and technology, there’s nothing like being in the presence of companies and teachers that have banded together to impact future learning.
FETC showcased incredible exhibits and some of the newest trends in the industry. From small companies to massive corporations like Microsoft and Amazon, it’s inspiring to see the unique ways businesses are striving toward creative content and learning engagement.
One of the emphasized trends was the combination of gaming and education. We had a chance to see simple games geared toward kindergarten through 12th-grade learning and more advanced 3-D gaming for mathematics.
Some of the representatives we had a chance to hear from included Garage Games from Las Vegas, a company that provides 2-D and 3-D gaming engine repurposed for education. We also spoke with a representative from New Dimension Media, a company that produces quality animation and videos used to teach history and English.
In addition to hearing from industry trendsetters, we learned a great deal from the teachers we spoke with. One of the common challenges they mentioned about online learning was the sheer bombardment of content, tools and platforms that are available as well as having to operate multiple platforms.
The feedback we received from the teachers bolsters our goal as we continue to provide the tools for individuals to teach from just one hosting system. Having returned to Seattle and reflected on our week at FETC 2014, we look forward to following up with our new connections and exploring potential gaming options to offer EDUonGo partners.
A hearty shout-out to the people who worked hard to make the FETC 2014 Conference a success. Looking forward to next year’s conference!
