Almooc Launches Series of Educational Competitions through EDUonGo Learning Platform, Microsoft among Sponsors
Sponsors partner with non-profit Albanian organization to promote courses and competitions.
Almooc, a non-profit organization that provides free education to Albanians, has kickstarted a series of educational competitions that will be offered to Albanians worldwide. All contests will be hosted through EDUonGo, a cloud-based eLearning platform.
Microsoft is one of Almooc’s first partners to sponsor a competition. The most recent contest challenged students of the Microsoft App Studio course to create Windows apps with their newly acquired coding skills. The first rounds of the competition were concluded last week. Of the 1,000 students who completed the course, 200 created and submitted apps for the competition. 20 finalists were chosen, 12 of whom were selected as winners of the competition.
“The App Studio Windows apps competition has been a huge success,” says Agim Bekaj, country manager of Microsoft Albania. “We look forward to continuing this competition with App Studio and other Microsoft products in the future.”
The first place winners of the Microsoft app competition received a Microsoft Surface, while the second place winners were awarded a Windows Phone, and third place winners received Microsoft-issued certificates of achievement. All 12 apps will be made available at windows.microsoft.com, as well as a majority of other submissions that did not make it to the finals.
Almooc’s series of competitions will include contests for building the best eLearning courses and creating programs using the Scratch program language. Participants must first enroll in and complete specific courses in order to participate in the competitions.
“Having reached over 25,000 students in just the last month, Almooc has been growing at an amazing rate,” says Ridvan Aliu, founder of Almooc. “I look forward to working with other companies like Microsoft in an effort to provide more courses to the Albanian population around the world.”
